FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team honored four student-athletes Tuesday evening at the annual awards dinner.
Freshman Bruna Paes earned the Most Improved award with an overall record of 15-13 on the year. Paes played mostly in the No. 6 spot in the lineup and proved to be a fighter all year long.
Seniors Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter were named Most Inspirational for their tremendous leadership and passion throughout the 2005-06 season. Sainz and Winterhalter have accomplished many things in doubles this season, including a fall regional title and an appearance in the final of the ITA All-Americn. But the two seniors provided stability in the singles lineups and had great wins during the regular season to help the Bulldogs win matches against top-25 opponents.
Freshman Melanie Gloria was named the team's MVP. Gloria exhibited excellent singles results this season including two wins over top-five opponents. Gloria was the WAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year as she dominated at the conference tournament.
Now the Bulldogs await their fate after tomorrow's NCAA tournament selection show. The announcement will be made on ESPNEWS at 5:45 p.m.
