Freshman Robin Mackin has been named the Toyota/www.gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for May 23. Mackin also won the award back on Feb. 21. Mackin recorded two shutout victories during NCAA Region VI play last weekend, as Fresno State went 2-2 overall and fell to No. 12 Stanford in the championship game. Mackin led all-tournament players with 15 strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work In the Bulldog's 2-0 win over CS Fullerton, she pitched a four-hitter and 24 hours later, she blanked Stanford 3-0 while throwing a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and hitting a two-run home run. In the championship game against Stanford on Sunday, she tossed a five-hitter and struck out five in a 3-0 loss. In the final game of the year, she set a new WAC and Fresno State single-season strikeout mark with 402 in 56 games - breaking the mark set by Jamie Southern, who had 400 in 70 games (2002). Also nominated: Jason Anthony (men's golf), Katharina Winterhalter (women's tennis), Loren Storey (baseball).
