BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada - It was a long day and it turned into a longer evening but the Fresno State basketball team prevailed through it all and opened its Canadian tour with a 73-57 victory over the University of British Columbia.
While the Bulldogs traveled eight hours today in order to play this evening in a 9:00 p.m. contest against the Thunderbirds, Fresno State not only arrived just in time but endured a 45 minute delay after introductions due to a fire in the bottom of War Memorial Gymnasium.
Fresno State trailed at half time, 32-27, but would outscore UBC, 46-25, and keep the T-Birds to a 28 percent shooting in the second half to earn the win this evening.
Ja'Vance Coleman had 22 points and Quinton Hosley added 11 to go along with eight rebounds while Kevin Bell dished out six assists.
The night was perhaps highlighted by the play of two newcomers as Eddie Miller scored 19 points and Dominic McGuire chipped in 12 while collecting 15 rebounds and five blocks.
Fresno State continues its Great White North tour tomorrow evening with a 7:00 p.m. (PDT) contest at Simon Fraser.
