FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State (292-303-300 - 895) finished its first tournament of the season in fifth place after shooting a 300 in the third round to finish at 31-over. University of Colorado (872/+8) won the tournament while Baylor (873/+9) finished one stroke behind. The host team Colorado State (894/+30) finished just one stroke ahead of Fresno State to come in fourth.
"A top five finish is a good showing and I was happy with our team scoring average," said head coach Angie Cates. "It was a good tournament heading into Oregon State, and we are looking forward to playing good teams to get us up in the rankings."
Jennifer Shipley (70-70-75 - 215) led the Bulldogs finishing 1-under par to tie for third. Shipley started the morning in first place and shot a 75 in her third round to come out 3-over for the day. Laura Luethke (70-75-74 - 219) shot a 2-over par to tie for 13th place. Tiffany Veerkamp (76-77-72 - 225) improved her score today shooting an even par to tie for 27th place. Brittany Cooley shot with rounds of 76-82-79 - 237 to tie for 62nd and freshman Jenna Buchanan (83-81-85 - 249) finished 88th.
"I was really proud of Jennifer," said coach Cates. "It was her first tournament where she finished under par. She knows it could have been a better tournament, so I look for a lot of things to come from her this year."
The Bulldogs will compete next at the Salsbasgeon Suites Invitational September 18-19 at the Trysting Tree Country Club in Corvallis, Oregon.
