Bulldogs Unable To Handle Husky Power

Fresno, Calif. - Playing their fifth ranked opponent the Fresno State women's volleyball team dropped its first match of the week to No. 4 Washington Huskies 3-0 (30-17,30-21,30-16). The only loss of the season for the Huskies was to No. 5 Texas. The Fresno State Bulldogs are now (1-9) on the season.
"Playing a team like Washington will help us better prepare for our conference season matches," said head coach Ruben Nieves. "We will see where we stand when we play a team like UC Davis."
Freshman OH Karlie Houston and freshman OH Lacey Gera were the Bulldogs top offensive players recording nine kills a piece as the Fresno State squad combined for a total of 34 kills. Redshirt-Freshman setter Lisa Gera led the night for the Bulldogs with 15 assists adding to her total of 164 on the year and junior Tiffany Hess added 15.
In the first game the Bulldogs came out right from the start and jumped on the Huskies 3-1. Fresno State came prepared and looked to catch Washington off guard with Houston connecting on her first five of nine total kills. The Huskies answered back with Junior MB Alesha Deesing connecting on five of six kills with an attacking percentage of .833. Huskies took game one 30-17.
Washington carried that momentum over to the second game jumping out to a 12-7 lead until freshman Kori Hayes connected on a pass from junior Tiffany Hess at 12-8. The Bulldogs battled late in the game with the score 20-14. The Huskies ran away with game two 30-21. Morrison led the Huskies in game two with seven kills.
The Huskies rolled in game three and ran out to a 6-0 lead. The Bulldogs cut it to four at 9-5 with a Lacey Gera kill. The Huskies held a steady pace and had too much power with Deesing and Morrison at the helm leading the pack with 13 kills a piece on a total team attacking percentage of .402.
Fresno State will conclude this week's match-up with UC Davis in the Save Mart Center at 7 p.m. Tomorrow night you can catch the Bulldogs on Comcast CH. 14. and listen on ESPN 1430 AM. Fresno State leads the series against UC Davis 6-4.
