Former Bulldog Kristen Fenton Makes U.S. Women's National Training Team

Fresno, Calif. - Kristen Fenton, a former Fresno State volleyball standout and a native of Marysville, Mich. will train with Team USA Women's National Volleyball Team. Fenton was a three-time letterwinner competing for the Bulldogs from 2001-04, adding numerous honors to her resume, including two-time All-West Region First Team, two-time First Team All-WAC, 2003 Honorable Mention All-American and 2004 WAC Preseason Player of the Year.
"Kristen is undoubtedly one of Fresno State's all-time great volleyball players," said Fresno State second year head coach Ruben Nieves. "We are very proud of her and wish her the best of luck in the Team USA program."
Fenton attended Marysville High School in Michigan, where she led her team to four state championships. As a sophomore at Fresno State she began setting new school rally records and in 2003 as a junior she averaged five kills per game and tied the national record for kills in a match with 41 against Cal State Northridge. In three-plus years at Fresno State, Fenton accumulated 1,353 kills for a 3.96 kills per game average. Her 1,353 kills ranks third in Fresno State history and her 3.96 average ranks second All-time.
Team USA will be training in Colorado Springs, Colo. starting January 16, 2007 and will last through the month of May and in that month veterans of the team will return and final cuts will be made for the Pan American Cup held June 15-24, 2007 at a site yet to be determined. The top three teams finishing teams from NORCECA and the top South American team in the 2007 Pan American Cup will qualify for the 2008 World Grand Prix. The twelve participating countries are: Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, USA and Venezuela.
