FRESNO, Calif. - The men's golf team is in 11th place out of 13 teams in Bremerton, Wash., at the Gold Mountain Golf Club. After two rounds of golf the Bulldogs finished 32-over with 306-302 - 608. Round two was suspended due to darkness with two groups still left on the course. Round three will begin as scheduled at 7:30 am and the last two groups will play their final hole (18) at 8 a.m.
The Bulldogs were able to finish both rounds, with Sophomore Grant Doverspike leading the way. Doverspike is tied for fifth place at one-over par with a 75-70 - 145. Matt Ryan is tied for 25th with a 75-76 - 151. Todd Angel shot a 79-76 to tie for 45th place with 11-over. Michael Gideon is tied for 54th at 13-over and Brad Wyatt is in 68th place with 21-over.
"It's a tough course, and we had some wind today," said Mike Watney. "Grant played great today with a 75 and 70, which shows the difficulty of this golf course."
With six players from the top three teams - Oregon State, Oregon and Washington - still needing to finish one last hole tomorrow, the three Northwest squads led the 13-team field. The host Huskies are tied with Oregon in second at 16-over, while Oregon State leads the pack at 5-over. Pepperdine sits in fourth place at 19-over 595 with Cal and San Diego State tied for fifth at 21-over 597.
The Bulldogs were unable to play a practice round on Sunday due to rain, which hurt the `Dogs because of the difficulty of the greens. With a chance of rain again tomorrow, the Bulldogs hope to tee off at 7:48 a.m. for the final round. Go to golfstat.com for live scoring.
