Angela Wiggins Hits Well Against Nevada

RENO, Nev. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Nevada Wolf Pack in Western Athletic Conference play in Reno, Nev., on Thursday night (Oct. 11). The game scores were 26-30, 20-30, and 20-30.
Game one saw three early ties and the Bulldogs took their first lead of the match at 3-2 off a block by Alisha McKee and Lauren Berger. Nevada then scored six-consecutive points behind the serving of Allison Hernandez to take its first lead of the night.
Fresno State was down 22-16 when freshman Kasey Van Grouw entered to serve and got the Bulldogs back in it at 22-19. Points rallied back-and-forth and a block by Tiffany Hess and Berger cut the Wolf Pack lead to three again at 27-24. That was as close as the Bulldogs would get as Nevada went on to take game one.
The Bulldogs hit .079 in game one to a .049 percentage for Nevada. Fresno State had six blocks, led by Berger with three. Angela Wiggins had seven kills to lead the team.
Nevada struck first in game two and never looked back as the Wolf Pack hit a match-high .375. Fresno State also hit a match-high .161 and got five kills from freshman Tairyn Rasmussen who entered the match in game two and hit .833.
Game three was all Nevada as they once again took the early lead and never trailed. Fresno State would pull to within four at 10-6 but never got closer.
Wiggins led the team in the match with 16 kills and a season-high .400 hitting percentage. Lisa Gera had a team-high 16 digs and Hess had 19 assists. Berger led the Bulldogs with four blocks.
As a team, Nevada hit .235 to a .102 percentage for the Bulldogs. Fresno had nine total blocks to eight and a half for Nevada.
The win improves Nevada to 4-3 in the WAC and 7-7 overall while Fresno State falls to 2-6 in WAC play and 4-14 overall. Nevada won the first meeting of the season in Fresno 3-0 on Sept. 27.
Other results in the WAC tonight: No. 22 New Mexico State (8-1) defeated Louisiana Tech (1-8) 3-0 in Las Cruces. In Boise, No. 12 Hawai'i (8-0) swept Boise State (1-8).
