Bulldogs and Broncos Battle to Five Games

FRESNO, Calif. - Just like the meeting on September 20 between Boise State and Fresno State, the match came down to the wire. This time however, the Broncos prevailed, winning games one, four and five to take the match. The game scores were 31-33, 30-27, 30-26, 25-30 and 9-15.
Fresno State took the early lead in game one at 2-1. They then were down by as many as four before an attack error by BSU tied the game at 14. A service error by the Bulldogs gave the Broncos the lead until Alisha McKee had a kill and a block assist along with Tiffany Hess and Kelly Leonardo to tie it at 29.
An attack error by Fresno State made it 29-30 and a service error by BSU tied it again at 30. Elisa Ardron then had a kill for Boise State to give them the one point advantage but a kill by McKee tied it at 31. The Broncos then scored two-consecutive points to take game one.
The Bulldogs again took an early 2-1 lead in game two and the Broncos never caught up. Fresno State was up by as many as five on three separate occasions before earning the three point victory to tie the match at 1-1 at the break.
Fresno State came out of the lockeroom in control to take the early lead by as many as six at 16-10. The Broncos however, scored seven-straight points behind the serving of Kristin Voyson to tie the game at 17.
It went back and forth, again being tied as late as 21-21, before a service error by the Broncos and service ace by Lisa Gera gave the Bulldogs the lead for good.
Boise State came out determined in game four to keep the match alive as they scored the first five points. Fresno State made a huge comeback though, as Hess had two-straight service aces and the Bulldogs took a 17-13 lead. They were up by as many as 24-19 before the Broncos outscored the Bulldogs 11-1 to take the game.
Game five saw the Broncos continue their hot hitting of game four as they hit .400 and won 15-9. Mandy Klein served for four-straight points to give the Broncos the lead at 9-8.
Lisa Gera had a career-high six service aces. Hess had a career-high five kills, 15 attempts, three service aces, three blocks assists and three total blocks. Both Leonardo (29) and McKee (62) tied their career in attempts. McKee also had a season-high six blocks and led the team in kills once again with 15.
As a team, the Bulldogs had a new game high of 21 kills in game one and 68 total attempts. They had a new high of 70 kills, 244 attempts, 13 service aces and 107 digs for a five-game match.
Boise State outhit the Bulldogs .211 to 102 for the match and had 17 total blocks to just 10.5 for Fresno State.
The Broncos were led by Jeanette Jenkins with 21 kills and Lauren Hamm with 32 digs.
Fresno State falls to 2-5 in conference play and 4-13 overall. Boise State earned its first conference win of 2007 to improve to 1-6 in the WAC and 4-11 overall.
