Wiggins Records Double-Double vs. SJSU

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team saw some big numbers from the freshman in Western Athletic Conference play Thursday night at the Save Mart Center. And despite making a huge comeback to win game two, the Bulldogs fell in four to the visiting San Jose State Spartans with game scores of 20-30, 30-25, 22-30 and 18-30.
The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead in game one with a kill by Alisha McKee and a service ace by Tairyn Rasmussen. Three-straight kills by Jennifer Senftleben gave the Spartans the lead at 3-2 and they never surrendered their lead. Rasmussen and Angela Wiggins had six kills each in game one and Wiggins added seven digs.
Wiggins added six more kills and eight digs in game two as the Bulldogs went on their largest run of the season. Fresno State was down 15-10 and then went on a 13-1 run behind the serving of Wiggins. San Jose State made a late comeback and got as close as three at 28-25, but the Bulldogs sealed a game two victory off a block by Wiggins and Sarah Oskam.
San Jose State took an early game three lead and was up by as many as four when the Bulldogs tied it at 13 behind four consecutive kills by Wiggins. A kill by Colleen Burke gave the Spartans a 15-14 lead before they went on a 5-1 run to seal game three.
The Spartans used the momentum from the end of the previous game to roll in game four and take the match. They were led by Keri Anglin with 14 kills and Emily Burke with 58 assists.
Fresno State was led by Wiggins with her third double-double of the season as she had season-highs in both kills (18) and digs (22). She also tied a season-high with two service aces.
Freshman libero Kelly Mason tied her career-high with 17 digs and fellow freshman Kelly Weymouth also had a career-high 13 digs, respectively.
Sophomore Lexi Watson had a career-high eight kills and 37 attempts for the Bulldogs. Oskam added a career-high three digs and three block assists.
The Bulldogs host No. 11 ranked and WAC leader Hawai'i tomorrow (Nov. 2) at 7 p.m. at the Save Mart Center. Live stats will be made available at www.gobulldogs.com and the match will also be broadcasted live on 790 ESPN Radio.
