FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's new Gender Equity Plan Task Force seeks public comment The Gender Equity Plan Task Force at California State University, Fresno has created a Web site to provide information and updates on its progress and to accept online comments and questions as part of its regular certification process.
The Web site includes the "Review & Findings" of the task force to date. Public input as to the findings can be directed through the Web site, www.csufresno.edu/taskforce/, or via e-mail at taskforce@csufresno.edu. The deadline to submit comments and questions is Tuesday, Dec. 4. Responses to the most frequently asked questions will be posted on the Web site on Tuesday, Dec.11.
University President John D. Welty appointed the task force of 13 campus and community members in August to develop a new five-year Gender Equity Plan. He indicated in his charge to the task force that the plan should meet compliance requirements of the Office of Civil Rights for Title IX as well as guidelines developed by the California State University to comply with state gender equity law.
The plan will be included as part of the Fresno State's current NCAA certification process. All NCAA members must undergo certification every 10 years. Fresno State was last certified by the NCAA in 1998-99. The public comments will be reviewed by task force members as they complete their work and recommend the Gender Equity Plan. Once completed, the plan will be forwarded to the NCAA Certification Sub-Committee on Equity and Student Athlete Well-Being and the NCAA Certification Committee at Fresno State. Athletics Director Thomas Boeh will consult with the Athletics Council and Athletic Corporation Board and make a final recommendation to President Welty, who will approve the plan.
