FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's and women's indoor and outdoor Track and Field team have released the 2007-08 schedule.
"We have a remarkably strong schedule this year," said Fresno State Track and Field Coach Bob Fraley. "This year's schedule is stronger than last year's which gives us the potential of beating some of the best teams in the nation."
The Bulldogs will open up their preseason next week with the Turkey Trials on Nov. 14. The Turkey Trials strives to initiate friendly competition between the current Fresno State track and field athletes, former Bulldog student-athletes and other community invites.
Before Fresno State begins its grueling indoor schedule as hosts of the Run for the Dream indoor track meet. The meet, which features high school, collegiate and professional athletes is meant to present the surrounding communities with the opportunity to honor track stars of the past with those of the present and future. This day-long event will take place Monday, Jan. 21 at the Save Mart Center.
The Bulldogs will then kick off their challenging non-conference schedule on Feb. 1 in Colorado Springs, Colo. at the US Air Force Academy with the women's invitational indoor meet followed by Northern Arizona and UC Davis. Fresno State's indoor team will wrap up the indoor season with the WAC Indoor Championships at Boise and the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
Just two weeks later, the Bulldogs will open up their outdoor schedule taking on Cal Poly at home March 17. Fresno State will compete at various other meets including the Stanford Invitational and the UCLA Invitational. The team concludes its regular season at the WAC Outdoor Championships in Boise, Id. May 14-17.
"These athletes will be competing against some of the top competitors in this country," Fraley said.
The Bulldogs will fight for their spots in the national tournament by competing for their best mark throughout their entire competitive schedule. The region's top five in each event will qualify for the national tournament in Sacramento in June.
"Join the State- Fresno State!" The Fresno State indoor track & field team will host the second annual Run for the Dream on Jan. 21.
