Bulldogs Fly Past Sacramento State

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State 81 Sacramento State 58 The Fresno State women's basketball team wanted to go into Christmas on a high note. On Friday, the Bulldogs accomplished just that as they beat Sacramento State 81-58 at the Save Mart Center.
The win ups the Bulldogs record to 3-8 while Sac State lost its 28th straight road game and fell to 2-9. Fresno State had four players in double figures led by Tierre Wilson's 20 points. Wilson has scored in double figures in 22 straight games dating back to last year. Jaleesa Ross had 15 points while Hayley Munro chipped in 13 and Bailey Amundsen 12.
Munro led Fresno State in rebounding with seven. For the second straight home game Fresno State shot better than 50 percent from the field (52.4) and held the Hornets to 40 percent shooting.
The Bulldog defense also forced Sac State into 21 turnovers.
"I thought the kids played with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm tonight," assistant coach Brett Frank said. "It was really important to go into Christmas break on a positive note. I think they really executed well this evening. We had a goal set of winning our last three games before conference play. This was the first step in reaching that goal."
Fresno State got off to a strong start as they turned a 10-6 lead seven minutes into the game into a 30-17 advantage with five minutes play until halftime. The Dogs outscored the Hornets 21-6 over the final six minutes of the game to lead 44-21 at halftime.
Fresno State quickly extended its lead to 30 at 54-24 five minutes into the final period after a layup by Munro. The Dogs led by as many as 33 points at two different times in the second half.
Fresno State returns to the floor on December 29 for a road contest at UC Riverside. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. and the game can be heard live on 1430 ESPN Radio.
