Northridge, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team had a goal of winning its final three nonconference games. The Bulldogs accomplished that goal on Sunday when they beat Cal-State Northridge 69-58. The win ups Fresno State's record to 5-8 while Cal-State Northridge dropped to 0-10.
"To set a goal and achieve it, whether it is a small step or a big one it is a good feeling," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "I am very proud of the players for that. Our rebounding effort has been really great as of late. We are sharing the basketball great which has allowed us to get some easy buckets and we are playing together as a team."
Jaleesa Ross led Fresno State in scoring with 17 points. Ross was a perfect five-for-five from the 3-point line while grabbing five rebounds.
Tierre Wilson scored in double figures in her 24th straight game as she had 13 points on five of eight shooting. Wilson and Erica Henry led the team in rebounding with eight. Henry also had six steals, all coming in the first half.
For the game Fresno State shot 42 percent from the field and out rebounded Northridge 45-27. While the Dogs turned the ball over 19 times they did have 21 assists, led by Emma Andrews five.
"We are really sharing the ball well and recognizing where our teammates can score," Wiggins said. "That is a good sign. At the same toke we have to get our turnovers down to under 15 a game. We are a few too high right now."
After trailing 4-2 in the early minutes of the game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-6 lead following a Wilson layup with 10:22 to play in the half. Cal-State Northridge got no closer than six points the rest of the game.
