FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Eddie Miller scored a career-high 27 points Saturday night to lead Fresno State over Sam Houston State 78-60 in a nonconference game.
Quinton Hosley added 14 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out for Fresno State (18-8), which snapped the Bearkats' six-game winning streak.
Trailing by nine points at halftime, Sam Houston State (18-8) pulled to within 45-40 early in the second half before the Bulldogs went on a 3-point shooting barrage powered by Miller and Tyson Parker. Miller finished 7-of-10 from 3-point range, his best shooting effort of the season. Parker went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, leading to a career-high 12 points.
Fresno State took its biggest lead, 65-42, when Miller threw a lob to Dominic McGuire for an alley-oop dunk with 8:55 left. The Bulldogs shot 47.3 percent from the field, boosted by a 14-of-30 mark on 3-pointers.
Jeremy Thomas had 13 points for Sam Houston State, including four 3-pointers. Aaron Wade added 12. Thomas made a running 3-pointer from 25 feet just before the halftime buzzer, cutting Fresno State's lead to 39-30.
The Bulldogs used a 16-1 scoring run late in the half to break open a close game. Hosley and Hector Hernandez made two 3-pointers apiece during the surge. Fresno State shot 50.0 percent in the first half compared to 26.8 percent for the Bearkats and held a 15-0 edge in fastbreak points.
