Roller Coaster
We're on the biggest roller coaster of our lives right now.
Like all roller coasters, there are the highs and then there are the lows. First I'll give you a little run down of the highs of our last month. Over the last few weeks we haven't seen our homes, just hotel rooms and the road. But with all traveling come some great memories.
Earlier in the month we traveled to Nevada and New Mexico State. In Reno we stayed in a nice casino hotel and we played some carnival games at Circus Circus. After the icy cold weather in Nevada, we moved on to Las Cruces, New Mexico where shorts and t-shirts were in need. The weather was bright and we even took a nice walk from our pre-game meal back to our hotel. From New Mexico we made a quick stop home just to repack and then we headed west to Hawai'i. Although the outcome wasn't great, the experiences and fun we had became part of memories to keep. The weather was beautiful and the girls and coaches made the most of it with some swimming and PLENTY of shopping. At night we got to try some different cuisines with dinner at a Japanese teppenyaki restaurant. We were wowed by the chefs' cooking and entertaining skills. Other meals in Hawai'i included breakfast on the beach at Duke's and dinner with the stars at Planet Hollywood.
The month of February was definitely one of traveling and although some of the outcomes didn't fall the way we wanted, the experiences we built were never to be forgotten.
However, as I said we are on a roller coaster and our downs have kept us from being the team we really are. We should be the number one team in the WAC, except for some reason we have been confronted with numerous setbacks and now we are in an unexpected position. The big wins, the terrible losses, the close games, the long road trips, the drama, the fun, the smiles, and the close bond holding this team together has made for a very interesting season. As a leader of this team, I wish I could give you great Bulldog fans an explanation for our current position - but to be honest I think if I had one we wouldn't be in that position. So now, because for 25 games I have been wondering how we can fix our problems, I've decided that the best solution for me and our team is just to not think about it and simply live in the moment.
As the end of our regular season comes to a close, I have begun to feel rather emotional about my time here at Fresno State. I am so anxious to see how the rest of our season will play out, because despite our inconsistency and unpredictability, I know we still have the ability and potential to achieve our goals and do what no Fresno State team has ever done before. So from now on it is just one day at a time, one game at a time. We cannot look past today because what happens tomorrow is not a given. So no matter what, we will make the very most of today, and win or lose, we are going to become a better team and better people. In the end winning doesn't matter, although it is nice, but it's what we get out of it that we will remember. At the end of the day, I know that the Bulldogs tried their hardest to make the most of today, and that tomorrow we will do that very same thing. And the day after and the day after that until someone will not let us go on. So when you see us dive on the floor, hustle for a loose ball, grab an offensive rebound, high five each other and pick each other up, its because we are making the most of the moment we are in. There are not many moments left for us to share and the best we can do is maximize that time and hope for the best.
See you out on the court this week.
Go Dogs!
