No. 22 Bulldogs Fall to Buckeyes, 2-1

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The No. 22 Bulldogs were defeated 2-1 by the Ohio State Buckeyes in Fresno State's second game of the 2007 Palm Springs Classic, Friday evening in Cathedral City, Calif. Fresno State scored one run in the top of the seventh, but was unable to tie the score. Fresno State fell to 6-5, while Ohio State improved to 4-3.
Junior Kristin Sylvester led off the seventh with a sharp double down the left field line. Senior catcher Nichole Willis promptly moved Sylvester to third with a groundout to second. Sylvester then scored when Ohio State catcher Lauren Daykin's pickoff attempt bounced into left field. Junior outfielder Ashley White singled with two outs, but was left stranded to end the game.
In the bottom of the sixth, freshman outfielder Brooke Phipps robbed Ohio State's Sam Marder of a solo homer to right. But the Buckeyes scored on Jamee Juarez's two-out single to left later in the innings, taking a 2-0 lead.
The Buckeyes had scored the first run of the ball game when Megan Schwab singled with two outs in the first, scoring Brittany Vanderlink from second.
Fresno State continued action in the Palm Springs Classic on Saturday with two games. The `Dogs battle Virginia at 5:30 p.m. followed by Long Island at 8 p.m.
