Bulldogs Fall Narrowly to Tulsa, 4-3

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team nearly pulled off an upset of No. 28 Tulsa before finally falling 4-3, Saturday evening in Tulsa, Okla. In an intense three-set battle, sophomore Rudolf Siwy fell 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5 to No. 34 Will Gray in the clinching match. It was the first loss of the 2007 dual match season for Fresno State as it fell to 2-1.
The 'Dogs got things started by winning the doubles point. Senior Charles Irie and freshman Tejesvi Veerepalli won 8-5 at the No. 3 spot. After Siwy and freshman Taylor Leiby lost 8-5 at the No. 2 spot, senior Jakub Cech and freshman Mirko Zapletal upset eigth-ranked Camacho and Cunningham. The Fresno State duo trailed 7-6, but broke serve, held and broke once more to win 9-7 at the No. 1 spot.
In singles, Veerepalli won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5 over Diego Camacho. Zapletal followed with a solid three-set victory at the No. 3 spot, defeating No. 90 Ricardo Soriano 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
The Bulldogs will stay in Tulsa for Sunday's dual match against 14th-ranked Oklahoma State. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. PST.
