FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Jennifer Shipley (71-70-64 - 205) went head to head with Idaho's Kelly Nakashima in a playoff for the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational title. Her victory came after an outstanding third round score of 64 to finish 11-under. Shipley started the day tied for seventh with scores of 71 and 70 for the first two rounds. This is Shipley's best collegiate finish and her first individual tournament title.
"I felt good, the front nine was really exciting, I got on a birdie run for awhile," said Shipley. "It was really exciting to win one and shooting the lowest round of my life to do it was fun."
Shipley recorded eight birdies on the day to get her lowest score of 64. She won after a 3-hole playoff when she chipped it in on the ten to make par while Nakashima got a bogey.
"It was a phenomenal round of golf for Jennifer," said head coach Angie Cates. "She played good from tee to green, making very good putts. She made everything today. This was a good field with a lot of great players and for her to come away with a victory is huge."
