Fresno State men's golf team (283-283 - 566) is in third place out of a 18-team field after two rounds at the Western Intercollegiate. The tournament is being played on the par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Bulldogs are four strokes behind the leader Purdue (562). Long Beach State (564) is two strokes back in second. Washington (574) is in fourth place and Hawaii (574) is in fifth.
Leading for the Bulldogs is freshman Grant Doverspike (69-68 - 137) who is currently tied for fourth place with 3-under. Doverspike is four strokes from the leader. Matt Ryan (71-70 - 141) is tied for 11th and Matt Shaw (71-72 - 143) is tied for 24th place. Brad Wyatt (72-73 - 145) is tied for 35th place and Todd Angel (75-76 - 152) is tied at 69th. Gunnar Avinelis (70-80 - 150) is playing as an individual for Fresno State and is tied for 62nd place.
"There was a lot of good golf played today," said head coach Mike Watney. "We gave three strokes away today that the guys aren't happy about. But we are looking forward to playing tomorrow."
Individually Brett Lederer (133) of Long Beach is leading the field by one stroke ahead of Pariya Junhasavasdikul (134) of Purdue.
The 54-hole event concludes Tues. March 20 with an 8 a.m. tee-time.
