Softball Splits Doubleheader With Nevada

Reno, NV - Fresno State didn't let a slow start stop them Saturday afternoon against Nevada. The Bulldogs rallied back to win the second game 7-1 at Idlewild Park in Reno, after falling 9-1 in the first game.
Fresno State won the three-game series with the Wolf Pack and improved to 26-12 overall and 2-1 in WAC play. Nevada dropped to 8-24 overall and 1-5 in WAC games.
Robin Mackin started the second game for the Bulldogs, pitching seven innings, allowing one run on nine hits while striking out nine. Mackin improved to 19-6 on the season with the win.
Offensively, Fresno State was led by Nichole Willis, who went 4 for 4 with two RBI. Haley Perkins set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 3 for 5 with two runs scored.
Kristin Sylvester continues to stay hot for the Bulldogs, going 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Merryann Barr and Michelle Palazuelos had two hits and Ashley White went 2 for 4.
Fresno State jumped out to an early lead in the second game, scoring three runs in the top of the first and adding two more in the second inning.
Haley Perkins led the second game off with a single, followed by three straight singles by Jenna Cervantez, Kristin Sylvester and Merryann Barr. Nichole Willis drove home the final two runs of the inning with a single.
In the second inning, Michelle Palazuelos led off with a single and Kristin Sylvester drove her in with her second home run of the day and fifth of the season over the left field fence.
Fresno State added one run in the fourth inning when Haley Perkins scored her second run of the game on a single by Sylvester.
In the first game, the Bulldogs fell 9-1 in five innings. Fresno State recorded 10 hits in the game, but managed to only plate one run. Kristin Sylvester hit her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence in the third inning.
Merryann Barr started the first game of the doubleheader and picked up the loss, falling to 7-5 on the year.
Fresno State returns to Bulldog Diamond for five games next week, beginning Tuesday, March 27 when it hosts Stanford in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs return to WAC action on Friday when they host Utah State for one game at 6 p.m. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
