Fresno State Finishes in 11th Place at Spartan Invitational

The Fresno State women's golf team took 11th place out of 14 teams Tuesday at the Almaden Country Club in San Jose, Calif. The Bulldogs (311-311-308 - 930) improved there third round score to a 308 to move ahead of New Mexico State. San Jose State (877) took first with a 15-stroke lead followed by Colorado and California who tied for second with a total score of 892. UC Irvine (895) took fourth and Idaho (905) closed out the tops five.
Tiffany Veerkamp (73-73-79) finished the tournament with a final score of 225 to lead the Bulldogs in the tournament tied for 15th place. Veerkamp's score of 73, marks her lowest round thus far.
"Tiffany put together two really good rounds Monday, and had a solid tournament this week," said head coach Angie Cates. "This is one of her best collegiate performances so far. She has definitely turned a corner with her tournament competition"
Laura Luethke (75-76-77 - 228) finished 9-over to tie for 27th place. Jennifer Shipley (80-79-71 - 230) followed close behind moving up on the scoreboard after capping a third round of 71 to tie for 34th.
"Jennifer had a great round today," said Cates. "She was steady and made a lot of great putts. She came through for us today after a rough start on Monday."
Brittany Cooley (83-84-81 - 248) tied for 68th and Pia Escandon withdrew from the tournament today due to a wrist injury.
Individually UC Irvine's Selanee Henderson (210) won the title after shooting a third round of 70 to pull ahead of San Jose States' Jenelle Gomez (212).
