FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Robin Mackin never let BYU in the ball game Thursday night, throwing her first no-hitter of the season as the Bulldogs beat the Cougars 6-0 in Fresno State's first game of the 2007 Bulldog Classic. Mackin was completely dominant in her third career no-hitter and the sophomore blasted her third homer of the year to help the `Dogs improve to 14-8 on the season.
Mackin struck out a season-high 15 while allowing only two walks. She retired 14 consecutive batters and struck out seven straight during one stretch of the game. Mackin did not allow one ball to leave the infield, inducing five groundouts while catching one soft lineout herself
Mackin homered in the second with freshman Lisamarie Coronado on board, giving Fresno State and early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
The `Dogs added two more in the third on sophomore Marryann Barr's RBI single to center and Coronado's fielder's choice to the shortstop.
Sophomore Haley Perkins doubled to left center in the fourth, driving in senior Shannon Garvin all the way from first. Perkins later scored on a wild pitch to give Fresno State the 6-0 advantage.
Fresno State has won three in a row as it enters the second day of the Bulldog Classic. The Bulldogs will meet the Colorado State Rams on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Bulldog Diamond. Tickets are available through the Fresno State ticket office or online at gobulldogs.com.
