No. 25 Softball Downed by No. 16 Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawaii - The Fresno State softball team dropped a tough game Friday night to Hawaii 18-2 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Both teams came in ranked in the top 25 and tied for first place in the Western Athletic Conference.
Fresno State is ranked No. 25 for the third straight week, but fell to 35-15 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Hawaii, ranked No. 16 nationally, improved to 41-8 overall and 12-1 in WAC to remain in first place.
The Rainbow Wahine jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Hawaii added eight more runs in the second. The Rainbow Wahine were playing in front of the largest crowd in school history, just over 1,000 fans at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Robin Mackin picked up the loss for the Bulldogs, falling to 26-8 on the season. Kate Robinson earned the win for Hawaii, improving to 13-0.
Offensively the Bulldogs got on the board in the fourth inning, when Shannon Garvin drove in Merryann Barr and Nichole Willis with a two out, two run double to right centerfield.
The two teams return to action at 5 p.m. (PST) on Saturday for a doubleheader at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on the Hawaii campus.
