No. 16 Bulldogs Roll Past Vandals in Semifinals

BOISE, Idaho - The 16th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team will defend its status as the five-time defending WAC champions on Saturday after blowing past Idaho 4-0 in the semifinals. The Bulldogs won their 10th straight, improving to 19-3 on the season. Freshman Anastasia Petukhova clinched the match, as Fresno State quickly won three singles matches to end the contest in impressive fashion.
Fresno State was dominant in doubles, clinching the doubles point quickly. Freshmen Renata Kucerkova and Petukhova beat Drew and Leopold 8-0. Moments later, sophomore Danon Beatty and freshman Vanessa Heroux shut out Leoni and Shrubb 8-0, as well.
It was the 15th straight match in which the `Dogs won the doubles point.
In singles, junior Jacqueline Haskett was nearly perfect, beating Carolyn Berry 6-0, 6-1. It was Haskett's fifth straight win as she improved to 10-4 overall and 8-3 in dual matches.
Sophomore Melanie Gloria was on top of her game as well, downing Patricia Ruman 6-2, 6-2 for her 18th-straight victory at the No. 1 spot. The third-ranked Gloria improved to 34-4 overall and 20-1 in dual matches.
Petukhova was also solid as well, beating Efrat Leopold 6-2, 6-1. Petukhova has now won 11 consecutive while improving to 20-3 overall and 17-3 in dual matches.
Sophomore Tinesta Rowe led 6-4, 2-1, Beatty was up 6-2, 5-2 and Kucerkova led 6-4, 2-1 when the match was clinched.
The Bulldogs will face Boise State in a rematch of last year's final at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday.
