Fresno State Finishes in Ninth at Peg Barnard Collegiate

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team (307-301 - 608) finished in ninth place out of 13 teams today at the Peg Bernard Collegiate in Stanford, Calif. The host team Stanford won the tournament with a final two-day score of four-over par 572 (287-285). Stanford claimed a three stroke victory over Denver, who came in second with a 576. Rounding out the top five were Oregon State (586), Hawaii (592) and Long Beach State (592).
San Francisco came in sixth (593), followed by Washington State (594), San Jose State (599), Fresno State (608), Portland State (620) and UC Davis (620).
Laura Luethke (74-75 - 149) led the Bulldogs tied for 19th place finishing seven over. Jennifer Shipley (78-74 - 152) improved her standing with a second round of 74 to tie for 30th with Taylor Siebert (75-77 - 152) at ten over. Tiffany Veerkamp (82-75 - 152) also improved her second round score after shooting a 75 today to tie for 44th place. Pia Escandon (80-83 - 163) tied for 59th place today.
Long Beach State's Kay Hoey broke the tournament two-round record with an eight-under par 134 to win individual medalist honors. The previous record was 136, held by San Jose State's Janice Moody (1997).
The Bulldogs will resume competition when they head to the WAC Championships in Las Cruces, New Mexico April 23- 25.
