SEATTLE, Wash. - In its final match of the Husky Classic, Fresno State fell to San Francisco 3-0, with game scores of 30-25, 30-20 and 30-28 in Seattle, Wash. (Aug. 25).
Freshman Lauren Berger continued her hot hitting streak from the Washington match earlier in the day, hitting .667 in game one .571 in game two and .417 for the match. Right on her tail was sophomore Kelly Leonardo hitting .571 in game one and two solo blocks.
Game one saw the Bulldogs take an early lead at 6-5 before the Dons went on a little run and were up by as many as five. FS kept inching closer but San Francisco pulled away to take the game.
The hot hitting of the Dons outdid the Bulldogs in game two (.326 - .122). Lacey Gera led the team with four kills and Kasey Van Grouw started the second game as the setter and provided 10 assists.
San Francisco came out early in game three and was up by as many as 10 at 19-9 when Lisa Gera came in to serve for the Bulldogs and they cut the lead to 19-16. The points rallied back-and-forth as it came down to the wire when Van Grouw served and the Bulldogs were within one at 29-28. The momentum changed, but it wasn't enough as the Dons pulled away for the 30-28 victory.
Fresno State finished the Husky classic and opening weekend 0-3 while San Francisco finished the tournament 2-1, with a five-game victory over CSUN earlier in the day and a day one loss to Washington.
