SEATTLE, Wash. - On day two of the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. (Aug. 25), No. 8 Washington was a little too much for the Fresno State volleyball team with a 3-0 victory and game scores of 30-18, 30-16 and 30-22.
The Bulldogs (0-2) were led by the freshmen in most categories with Lauren Berger hitting a team-high .750, Kasey Van Grouw had 25 assists and Kelly Mason had double-digit digs for the second-straight match with 15.
The Huskies (2-0) came out strong in game one before the Bulldogs cut it to 15-10, but five was as close as FS got. Freshman Tairyn Rasmussen recorded two solo blocks, one which started the team's mini-spurt early in the game.
With an early 5-4 lead for the Bulldogs, the Huskies heated up with a 10-4 run and ended the game with a 26-11 run to take game two.
Fresno State made the Huskies really work in game three as the Bulldogs had it tied at 17 before Washington pulled away for the 30-22 victory. The Huskies .319 hitting percentage in game three was their highest of the match.
"I was really excited for the opportunity to play them (Washington)," said Mason. "Once we started getting in the flow of the match we were being aggressive and the momentum carried us. The third game we came out of the locker room with a lot more energy and we talked a lot more. We knew we were down 2-0 and had nothing to lose."
