FRESNO, Calif. - Despite hitting a season-high .286 in game one and .197 for the match, the Fresno State volleyball team dropped the season opener to the Idaho State Bengals 3-1. The game scores were 30-28, 23-30, 30-28 and 30-24.
Freshman Tairyn Rasmussen led the Bulldogs with her first career double-double as she had 12 kills and 14 digs.
"I thought the start Tairyn got off too was a real plus," said head coach Ruben Nieves.
Alisha McKee had a match-high 19 kills followed by Lacey Gera with 17. McKee hit a team-best .319 with 47 total attempts.
"Alisha had a good offense match," said Nieves. "We will take .319 from our outside hitter."
Gera, the 2006 Western Athletic Conference freshman of the year, hit .240 for the match and was second on the team with two blocks.
"One bright spot is that Lacey had her best match of the season. It looks like she is getting close to the form she was at a year ago."
Lisa Gera led the team with 24 digs and Kelly Leonardo also recorded double-digit digs with 11.
The Bulldogs continue the opening homestand with UC Davis Friday (Aug. 31) at 7 p.m. and St. Mary's Sunday (Sept. 2) at 2 p.m. in the Save Mart Center.
