Bulldogs and Broncos Battle to Five

FRESNO, Calif. - In an epic battled that lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours at the Save Mart Center Thursday night, Fresno State fell 3-2 to Boise State in WAC play, dropping the Bulldogs to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in conference. Set scores were 25-27, 26-24, 19-25, 27-25 and 12-15.
"We were more competitive at home tonight and showed the fans we are getting better," said head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell. "It's amazing the potential that we have as a team and have shown we have the ability to come back."
Set one belonged to the Bulldogs early as they had a lead as big as five at 13-8. Boise State fought back to tie the match at 13 and 14 and took the first lead of the match at 15-14. After 10 more ties, Boise State took the set 27-25 off back-to-back Bronco kills.
Also a nail biter in set two, the Bulldogs were able to maintain the lead throughout and while Boise State kept it close, the Broncos never led. Fresno State won set two 26-24 off of a kill.
Boise State dominated set three, never trailing. Fresno State, down 17-9, made a run to get to within three at 17-14 but the Broncos finished on an 8-5 run for a 25-19 set win.
In a must-win set four, Fresno State was down by four late at 22-18 but fought back to tie at 23 off an error by the Broncos. Four of the last five points were kills by Brianna Clarke that kept the `Dogs alive in the match.
In the deciding set, Boise State took the lead at 2-1 and while the Bulldogs got to within two at 14-12. Boise State held on for the set and match victory.
Clarke led the `Dogs with a career-high 22 kills. Baylee Platt recorded 15 kills of her own while Meghan Moss had a new career-high 24 digs to lead all players. Fresno State had 63 kills in the match to 45 for Boise State. The Bulldogs also had 59 assists to the 42 of the Broncos and 12 service aces.

Tonight's `Fighting Spirit Award' went to libero Meghan Moss.
Fresno State continues WAC home play on Saturday at 1 p.m. as it hosts Idaho. Get in free with your football ticket. Get autographs from the team after the match. The Fresno State pep band will be in attendance at the match before heading over to the Bulldog football game vs. Hawai'i at 7 p.m.
