Team Smile Set for October 4

FRESNO, Calif. - For the second straight year Fresno State athletics is set to team with Henry Schein Dental for Team Smile Day on October 4. The event will take place in conjunction with Saturday's football game against Hawai'i.
Team Smile Day will take place within several classrooms located in the South Gym. It begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. Fresno Parks, After School, Recreation and Community Services Department will continue its partnership with Fresno State athletics by pre-selecting 100 youth to receive complimentary full restorative oral healthcare treatment.
Through the coordination of Fresno State athletics team dentist , Dr. Xavier Gutierrez, over 80 local volunteer dentists will provide complete restorative care for these youth who otherwise have never received any dental services in their young lives. Treatment includes, but not limited to, screenings, extractions and fillings.
Henry Schein Dental provides all the necessary mobile equipment and supplies. During the day kids will be able to visit with TimeOut and several Fresno State student-athletes as well as taking part in outside fitness activities. The kids are then invited to a tailgate dinner and the football game courtesy of Henry Schein Dental.
Former Bulldog football student-athlete, Michael Stovall (1998-2001) now a field sales consultant with Henry Schein has spearheaded this program coming to the Valley as a way of giving back to the community.
Team Smile was launched with the NFL Kansas City Chiefs in the fall of 2006 as a program that was created in an effort to promote dental healthcare to the general public and to encourage volunteerism by members of the dental community.
The first Team Smile event was held in Fresno last year and it was the first time it was held on a collegiate campus. The Bulldogs inaugural collegiate Team Smile has quickly become the collegiate model for other schools around the nation.
