Dogs No. 9 in Coaches Poll

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's equestrian program remains among the nation's elite, ranked No. 9 in the most recent National Equestrian Coaches Poll. The Dogs are coming off two wins to end the fall semester and are off Feb. 7 when they will host defending national champion Georgia at the Student Horse Center.
Although on hiatus until the spring semester, the Auburn Tigers remained the No. 1 team in the National Coaches Equestrian Poll. It marked the fourth straight time Auburn has been in the nation's top-ranked team.
The Tigers (3-0) have wins over Fresno State, South Carolina and Georgia. Their next event is scheduled for Jan. 24, 2009 against Delaware State.
Texas A&M moved into sole possession of second place in the poll this week. In the previous poll, the Aggies were tied with Georgia. The Bulldogs dropped to third place in the poll with 45 points in the poll, three behind Texas A&M.
Baylor and Oklahoma State are tied for fourth place in the poll with 42 points each.
TCU stands in the sixth place with 26 points, followed by South Carolina with 20 points. USC moved up two positions in this poll. Kansas State moved up one spot in the latest poll in the ahead of Fresno State in ninth place.
New Mexico State received seven points and remains ranked No. 10 in the poll.
The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll. The poll will be released bi-monthly with the next announcement scheduled for Dec. 9, 2008. The final poll of the season will be released April 21, 2009.
