FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team (571) sits in a tie with No. 49 Kansas State for third place after the second day of the Pacific Invitational. The Bulldogs carded a three-over par 292 in the second round.
Rice is currently in sole possession of first place with a second round score of two-under par 283. Oregon sits in second place with a score of two-over par 286. Fresno State sits five strokes back of the leader Rice.
"We had a pretty difficult day," said head coach Mike Watney. "The weather conditions were worse than yesterday. We are only five strokes back. We are looking to have a better day tomorrow and move back up the leader board."
Michael Buttacavoli of Rice and T.J. Bordeaux of Pacific are atop the leaderboard after carding five over par and a two round total of 137. Two strokes back is Kansas State's Mitchell Gregson and Oregon's Isaiah Telles in a two-way tie for second place. Grant Doverspike is tied for fifth and is three strokes out of first place.
Matt Ryan is tied for 10th place and Todd Angel is tied for 20th both shooting a second round score of one-over par 72. Bryan Hogan completed the day with a total of 146, which is four over par and places him in a tie for 28th. Michael Gideon carded a second round of three-over par 74 to finish in 59th.
The `Dogs look to rally back from five shots back on Wednesday, the final day, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Pacific Invitational. Live statistics will also be available by logging on to www.golfstat.com.
