Melloh Has Eight Strikeouts vs. No. 18 Ohio State

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Morgan Melloh had eight strikeouts and allowed only five hits, but the Bulldogs fell in a heartbreaker, 1-0, to No. 18 Ohio State on day two of the Palm Springs Classic after a 30 minute rain delay. The Bulldogs fall to 6-2 on the season and Melloh records her first loss as she is now 5-1. The Buckeyes improve to 9-2 on the year.
Melloh walked the leadoff batter and gave up an infield single to the second batter before getting a fly ball to right field and striking out the fourth and fifth batters in the lineup.
After the Bulldogs went down one-through-three in the bottom in the first, Melloh came in and struck out the side in the second.
In the bottom of second the Bulldogs were able to get on base after a Melloh single to right center field but the Bulldogs had trouble advancing runners due to Ohio State's defense. The Bulldogs would leave two runners on base after a Haley Gilleland blooper over third base.
The Bulldogs would leave two runners on base once again in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.
Ohio State struck in the top of the sixth as they got the bases loaded and scored off of a fielders choice to take the 1-0 lead and the game.

The next home game for the Bulldogs is a doubleheader Monday, February 25 at 6 p.m. against Eastern Michigan. February 25 is Monday Madness and general admission tickets are just $1 on game day.
