FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's trip to Texas wasn't as successful as head coach Becky Malmo would have liked, but her young team gained valuable experience against good competition.
The Dogs battled on the nation's premier programs Saturday, Baylor, at the site of the upcoming 2008 Varsity Equestrian National Championships, Waco, Texas. Baylor edged Fresno State by a scored of 9-5.
The day wasn't without some outstanding Bulldog individual performances. Lisa Wells continues to have a super season and won MVP honors in Equitation over Fences by scoring a 74.
Kirsten Sohns scorched the ring with a score of 80 on a horse named Groucho, as she won MVP honors in Equitation on the Flat. Her score was the highest of any rider in any event on the day.
Rebecca Flood continues to emerge as one of the top Western Horsemanship riders in college athletics with another strong performance. She won her match over Maggie Griffin with a 71.5 on Charlie.
In Reining, Keri Blackledge continues to impress, scoring a one-point victory over Baylor's Nicole McCoy. Elizabeth Thomasian tied her match with Kim Marlowe by riding to a 68.5.
