Top Three Women's Singles Players Win Matches

FRESNO, Calif. - Although the Fresno State's top three singles players won their matches, it wasn't enough to get past No. 27 Texas. The Bulldogs fell to the Longhorns, 4-3.
"It was a tough loss today, we have played all of our games away this season and are looking forward to being at home," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "We want to finish here in Texas on a good note, it will be nice to have a day off tomorrow to prepare for our match on Monday at TCU."
The Longhorns may have won the doubles point, but No. 14 Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova won their match at the No. 2 spot, 8-4. Kucerkhova and Petukhova are now 23-7 overall and 8-3 in dual.
Playing at the No. 1 spot, No. 11 Melanie Gloria breezed past Vanja Corovic, 6-1, 6-4. Gloria has played at the No. 1 spot all season and has proved to be one of the top players. She is now 14-6 overall and 6-3 in dual.
No. 20 Petukhova has won her last eight matches, at the No. 2 spot. Petukhova now improves to nine straight with a win over Courtney Zauft, 6-4, 6-2. Petukhova is now 24-4 overall and 9-1 in dual.
Playing tough at the No. 3 spot, No. 98 Kucerkova was behind after the first set, but managed to comeback and win her match against Stephanie Davison, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Kucerkova has improved to 13-8 overall and 6-4 in dual.
The Bulldogs have a day to prepare for their match on Monday against No. 31 TCU. Fresno State is 4-3 overall against the Frogs, beating them 4-3 the last time the two teams met in 2007.
