FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team are in 13th place out of 18 teams after the first round at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational. The host team, UNLV, is the leader at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Rebels shot a first round 284 to finish a stroke ahead of Washington State.
The Bulldogs shot 301 to finish 13-over par after 18 holes on Monday. The Bulldogs were led by junior Taylor Siebert who is tied for ninth after firing a first round 71.
"Taylor played great today," said head coach Angie Cates. "She managed her way around this golf course very well."
Laura Luethke tied for 31st place with a 2-over 74. Hali Coppin shot a 77 to finish 5-over tied for 57th place. Freshman Chelsea Czinski made her debut in the Bulldog line-up and shot a 79 to tie for 73rd place. Pia Escandon shot a 82 to finish in 90th place.
"As a team we left a lot of shots out there coming down the stretch" Cates said. "Everyone had a pretty good front nine but we gave a few back in the last four holes. We know we can do better tomorrow. I was very pleased with Chelsea's performance today. We have been waiting for a No. 5 to come out and shoot in the 70's and she did pretty good for her first time in the line-up."
The Bulldogs will play 18 holes on Tuesday and finish with the third round on Wednesday. Bothe days will begin with 7:30 a.m. tee times off of holes 1 and 10. For live scores and results go to www.golfstat.com.
