Angene Has Five RBI's, `Dogs Win 15-4

FULLERTON, Calif. - Nicole Angene had a career day with her first home run and five RBI's as the No. 14 Bulldogs won their second game of the day, and the fourth at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., with a 15-4 victory over the host Titans. Morgan Melloh would get her fourth win of the tournament and 19th overall. Fresno State improved to 29-5 overall.
The 15 runs and 18 hits are both season-highs for the Bulldogs. The 15 runs allowed by Cal State Fullerton are the most in a single game since they gave up 18 against UCLA in 2001.
Starting pitcher Jessica Doucette would lead off the bottom of the first for the Titans with a single to right center and would reach second on a bunt single by Sheila Holguin. Both runners would advance on a sacrifice bunt by Katie Gollhardt.
Fresno State starting pitcher Melloh would get out of the jam in the first and Fullerton would leave two runners on base.
Melloh would strike out the side in the bottom of the second.
Nicole Angene would get the Bulldogs first hit of the game in the top of the third, a single to right field. She would reach second on a sacrifice bunt by Lisamarie Coronado and an error by the Titan third baseman.
Fresno State would leave two runners on in the top of the third.
An Aja Scheuber single to the pitcher and a tough at bat for a walk for Ashley White put runners on first and second with one out in the top of the fourth.
Mallory Perkins would enter to run for Scheuber and score off a double to left field by Andrea Ortega. Fresno State would take the 1-0 lead.
Angene would hit her first home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field.
Cal State Fullerton would get a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, so the crowd though. The runner would score from third, but an illegal pinch hitter would move the runners back and the Bulldogs would get out of the inning without giving up a run.
Haley Perkins led off the top of the fifth with an infield single. Gilleland would advance to first on a sacrifice and an error which sent Perkins to third.
Scheuber would it a single to left field to score Perkins. White would then hit a single to left to bring in Gilleland for a 6-0 lead.
With one out in the top of the sixth, the Titans would take out Doucette and replace her on the mound with freshman Ari Cervantes.
Angene picked up her fourth and fifth RBI's of the game, a game-high for the freshman, off a single to right field and after five it would be an 8-0 Bulldog lead.
The Titans would get a run across in the bottom of the sixth as Cervantes would score from first off a double by Holguin.
After K.C. Craddick was hit by a pitch, Lauren Lupinetti hit a three run home run to left field with two outs to cut the Bulldog lead to 8-4.
Fresno State would get some runs back in the top of the sixth after Brooke Phipps walk and an infield single by Perkins.
Gilleland's bunt single would load the bases with no outs.
An illegal pitch by Cervantes brought another run across for the Bulldogs. With one out, Scheuber hit a single to left field and Fresno State would add two, to make it 10-4.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Coronado, Phipps and Perkins would all hit singles and Gilleland would clear the bases with a double to left center field.
Caitlin Stiglich would hit a team-high sixth home run of the season to center field for a 15-4 Bulldog lead.
Melloh had 10 strikeouts in the game and allowed four runs on seven hits for a complete game.
The Bulldogs wrap up play in the Judi Garman Classic on Saturday morning at 11:15 a.m. as they take on No. 20 Long Beach State.
