Dogs Finish Seventh at Peg Barnard

FRESNO, Calif. -
The Fresno State women's golf team completed the regular season with a seventh place finish at the Peg Barnard Collegiate. The Bulldogs shot 615 (309-306) to finish 47-over par at the par 71-6,117 yard Stanford Golf Club. The `Dogs fell six-strokes short of UC Davis and California who tied for fifth place in the 14-team field.
Stanford defended its title shooting a 591 (300-291) and finished with a four stroke victory over second place Washington who shot a 595 (297-298). In third place was Oregon State with a score of 599 (303-296).
Laura Luethke was the top `Dog with her sixth top-20 performance tying for 16th place. Luethke posted a 36-hole total of 151 (77-74) to finish nine-over par.
"Laura had a good tournament; the greens here were very tough and really fast," said head coach Angie Cates. "They were a lot faster than any of the greens we have played on this year but she managed to have a really steady round with 16 pars."
Pia Escandon tied for 30th place with 12-over par 154 (79-75). Taylor Siebert put up 81-75 to finish with 14-over 156 to tie for 36th place. Hali Coppin shot 74-84 - 157 to tie for 41st place, after making her second career hole-in-one in the first round on Friday. Chelsea Czinski tied for 51st place with scores of 79-82 - 161.
"We are really excited to focus all of our attention and effort toward the WAC Championship and we will prepare for that all this week," Cates said.
The Bulldogs completed the regular season and look forward to hosting the WAC Championship at Sunnyside Country Club April 21-23 with hopes of advancing to the NCAA Western Regional in Sacramento. Admission is free to the general public.
