No. 15 Bulldogs Conquer Long Beach State, 6-1

FRESNO, Calif. - The 15th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team swept No. 37 Long Beach State 6-1 on Friday at the Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs improved 15-7 overall and look ahead to a doubleheader Saturday against Cal Poly at 11 a.m. and Pacific at 4:30 p.m.
"I am very happy with the way we played today," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "We beat a team that has won the Big West and we came out on top. We are working toward the WAC Championships, NCAAs and playing very well."
Against Long Beach State, the 'Dogs won the doubles point building a strong momentum going into the singles matches.
No. 3-ranked Juniors Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe clinched the doubles point with a 8-3 win over Long Beach's Stephanie Bengson and Hannah Grady. No. 25 sophomores Anastasia Petukhova and Renata Kucerkova dominated their match against Stephanie Jeanes and Jessica Weeks, winning 8-3.
In singles, Petukhova gave a solid performance in the No. 2 spot and was the first to finish winning 6-1 and 6-2. Shining in the No. 4 spot, Rowe defeated Jeanes with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Senior Jacqueline Haskett clinched the match dominating Weeks 6-1, 6-4. Gloria wrapped up the match with a bold battle in a tie-break win against Grady 6-2, 5-7 (4). Fresno State won the match 6-1.
On Saturday, the 'Dogs host a doubleheader against Cal Poly at 11 a.m. and Pacific at 4:30 p.m, marking Haskett's last regular season match at home.
