`Dogs and Wolf Pack Split Doubleheader

FRESNO, Calif. - On the final day of the three-game WAC home opening series for Fresno State, they split with Nevada as the Bulldogs took game one 4-1 and Nevada won game two, 5-0. The No. 10/13 Bulldogs are now 35-7 and 3-2 in the WAC.
Game One
Morgan Melloh won her 24th game of the season to improve to 24-4 and 2-1 in WAC play. Jordan McPherson falls to 11-9. Melloh would have seven strikeouts and allowed no runs on six hits. McPherson allowed two runs on six hits.
Nevada struck early in game one, after two Bulldog errors, Noelle Micka would score from third off a sacrifice fly by Brittany Puzey for an early 1-0 Wolf Pack lead.
Jenna Cervantez would get the first hit of the game for the Bulldogs as she lead off the bottom of the second inning with a triple, her second of the year, to right field.
A single to right field with two outs by Nicole Angene tied the game at 1-1 after two.
Haley Perkins would lead off the third with a triple to right center, her seventh of the year, to tie her for fifth on the single season list.
Haley Gilleland would then hit an infield single and reach second on an error by the Wolf Pack which would score Perkins for a 2-1 lead.
Gilleland would then score off an RBI by Aja Scheuber for a 3-1 Bulldog advantage after three innings.
Ashley White would lead off the fourth with a walk and Michelle Palazuelos would enter to pinch run. Angene would then reach first on an error by Nevada, to put runners on first and second with one out.
Palazuelous would score off an error and Angene would advance to third and pinch hitter Lisamarie Coronado to second for a 4-1 final score. Cervantez and Angene lead the team in game one with two hits a piece.
Game Two
Nevada would strike first again in game two with a run in the top of the third.
Freshman Ryane Petersen would replace Bulldog starting pitcher Ashley Cox in the top of the third with one out and runners on second and third. Cox would allow five hits, three runs and had one strikeout.
The Wolf Pack would get two more runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead.
Mallory Perkins would get the first hit of the game for the Bulldogs with a lead off single to left field in the bottom of the third.
Nevada would add to its lead in the top of the fifth with two outs to make it 4-0.
With a runner on first and no outs in the top of the sixth, Petersen would be relieved by Melloh on the mound. Petersen went two and two thirds innings and allowed one run on four hits.
The Wolf Pack would get one more run in the top of the sixth for a 5-0 score.
Katie Holverson would win her second game of the series for Nevada, improving to 14-5. Cox falls to 4-1 and 0-1 in the WAC.
