`Dogs Move Up at Morris Williams

FRESNO, Calif. -
The Fresno State men's golf team conclude the spring season with a 12th place finish at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. The Bulldogs carded their best round of the tournament with 299 in the third round to move up from 14th place. Fresno State finished 58-over par with a three round total of 910 at the par 71, 7,412-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
The Longhorns held off Oklahoma State to win the tournament and claim their first win in their home tournament since 2002. Texas fired a third round 287 to finish six strokes ahead of Oklahoma State. UNLV finished third with 24-over 876.
Grant Doverspike had the low third round for the Bulldogs with a 72 to tie for 34th place with 13-over par. Doverspike improved after each round carding a 79-75-72 - 226 to finish on top for the `Dogs.
Matt Ryan and Brad Wyatt tied for 45th place with 16-over 229. Ryan posted a 74 on Tuesday while Wyatt had a good comeback shooting two-under on his last nine holes. Wyatt teed off of ten and shot eight-over on the back nine but finished strong to shoot a 77. Todd Angel was at even par after his first nine holes but finished the round with nine-over 80. Angel tied for 52nd place with 230. Michael Gideon tied for 67th place with a 76 in the third round.
"We have three weeks before the WAC Championship so we will take a break and then prepare hard for the WAC," said head coach Mike Watney. "It looks like we will have to win the WAC to get a chance at going to the NCAA."
Redshirt freshman Bobby Hudson became UT's first medalist at the event since 2002 after shooting a six-under 65 - good for a new course record.Hudson finished five-under with 208.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Bulldogs take a break before heading to the WAC Championships on April 28-30 in San Jose, Calif. To catch more collegiate golf the Fresno State women's golf team will host the WAC Championships April 21-23 at Sunnyside Country Club. Admission is free to the public.
