FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldog Shop saw a strong outpouring of purchases from the community in recent summer months that spun from the Fresno State baseball team's world series victory and a strong momentum entering the 2008 football season.
A combination of the Bulldog's Cinderella triumph to a National Championship title and many fans anxiously awaiting an impressive football schedule, has resulted in the highest sales in the history of the Bulldog Shop and more than 3,000 web sales.
"People were excited when the baseball team was in Arizona," said Diane Brock, Bulldog Shop manager. "This was before we made it to the World Series in Omaha." The Bulldog Shop offers a mecca of genuine Bulldog gear ranging from hats to t-shirts, sweatshirts, jerseys, and much more. There is a look for every athletic team.
"It is a glorious thing to see," Brock said. "I re-ordered National Championship shirts nearly 15 times. The hats and t-shirts are the hot items. We needed to have a glory and it came at the perfect time. It's exciting to see the community behind the Bulldogs."
In light of high sales and floods of fans, the shop is offering special promotions to customers, including a discounted No. 7 football jersey, which goes on sale Aug. 2-6 with a 15-percent discount. Fans can also expect discounts on special game day football shirts, including a Wisconsin game day t-shirt.
"People love football and I think the craze will continue into August," Brock said.
Brock hired extra help in the shop to better meet the needs of loyal Bulldog customers. At times, more than 50 people can congregate on the floor seeking help for their purchases.
"We have been really busy," said Abby Bashaw, a current shop employee. "We had to hire security. The line after the baseball team's victory went for a solid eight hours. One customer spent $1,400."
The support for the 'Dogs came not only from the local community, but also from coast to coast.
"Roughly 35% of our total sales came off the web," said Jeremy Melcher, Assistant Manager. "I probably shipped something to almost every state in the country."
With a successful run of a summer, and football season on the horizon, the Bulldog Shop is not expecting slow days anytime soon.
"We will be busy through Christmas," said Brock.
