`Dogs Play Tough vs. Arizona

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Fresno State fought back to tie the match at 1-1 but Arizona held on in a tough-fought match to defeat the Bulldogs 3-1 by set scores of 25-17, 28-30, 25-16 and 15-14. Fresno State is 2-6 on the year and takes on Chicago State in the final match of the CSU Bakersfield tournament tonight at 4:30 p.m.
Fresno State started the match down 5-1 in the first set but would go on to score five straight to take a 6-5 lead. The Bulldogs were once again down 13-9 but came back to tie at 13-13. Arizona would then go on to win set one 25-17.
The Bulldogs looked good early in set two and came out with a new energy for a 10-5 lead. Fresno State would have its biggest lead at 15-8. Arizona then went on a run to tie the set at 17-17. The Wildcats would take the lead before Fresno State tied it at 23-23. On set point for Arizona a kill by Brianna Clarke would keep the `Dogs alive. Set points would rally back and forth until Kelly Leonardo, Allanah Munson and Clarke had the block for the final point for a 30-28 `Dogs win.
Tied at 6-6 in set three, Arizona would capitalize on three-straight errors by the Bulldogs to take a 9-6 lead. After Fresno State rallied to tie at 10-10, Arizona would go on a run of its own to re-take the lead at 16-10. While the Bulldog got to within four, Arizona would go on to win set three 25-16 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Down early in set four, Fresno State tied it at 9-9 with a solo block by Clarke. It was then tied again at 11-11 after a kill by Baylee Platt. Arizona would go on a 9-0 run to take control of the set and the match for the 25-14 win.
Platt had the match-high with 14 kills while Clarke added 13 of her own. Fresno State had 11 total team blocks to just eight for Arizona.
