`Dogs Sweep Chicago State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - In the first-ever meeting between the Bulldogs and the Chicago State Cougars, Fresno State came out on top with an impressive sweep and set scores of 25-14, 25-8 and 25-16. Fresno State improves to 3-6 on the season as they conclude play in the Cal State Bakersfield tournament.
Fresno State got off to quick 6-0 lead to start the match behind the serving of junior Allanah Munson. The Bulldogs continued to have control of the set in entire way for the 25-14 win.
Set two was much the same for the Bulldogs as they took control early and scored the final nine points behind the serving of freshman Brianna Clarke for a 25-8 win. The Bulldogs hit a match-hit .320 in set two.
Munson started off set three with two-straight service aces as the Bulldogs took the early lead and never looked back as they went on to win set three and the match 25-16.
Clarke had 12 kills in the match and became the first Bulldog on the season to tally 100 as she now has 106. Kelly Leonardo also had a season-high 10 kills. As a team, the Bulldogs also had a season-bests in several categories including hitting percentage (.283), kills (43), service aces (6), block assists (10) and total blocks (7.0).
The final match of the tournament ended up being the championship with Arizona sweeping CSUB for the title.MVP of the tournament went to Paige Weber from Arizona. The Wildcats also got Jacy Norton and Whitney Dosty on the all-tournament team. Cal State Bakersfield named Barbie Thistle and Rosemary Stribling to the team while Hnaya Minta from Chicago State and Allanah Munson from Fresno State also earned all-tournament honors.
