`Dogs Conclude WAC Road Trip

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldog volleyball team concluded their Western Athletic Conference road trip falling in three sets to the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters on Saturday night in Ruston, La. Set scores were 25-16, 25-16 and 25-20. The `Dogs drop to 11-10 overall and 4-5 in the WAC while LA Tech improves to 14-12 and 4-6.
The Bulldogs went up early in set one, 3-0 before Louisiana Tech went on a 7-0 run to take the lead. The `Dogs tied the set at 8-8, but the Lady Techsters went up by as many as nine and took the set 25-16.
Senior Kelly Leonardo (Merced, Calif.) and Brianna Clarke (Fresno, Calif.) each had three kills in set one.
LA Tech took an early 5-1 lead in set two, but a block by Leonardo and junior Lauren Berger (Medford, Ore.) got the `Dogs to within one at 5-4.
A kill by Leonardo tied the set at 7-7 but the Lady Techsters rolled on to a 25-16 lead to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The `Dogs took a 3-0 lead again in set four. LA Tech tied the set at 6, 8, 10, 12 and 13 before going up 15-13 and forcing a Fresno State timeout.
With LA Tech up 20-16, the `Dogs called a timeout but the Lady Techsters took set three and the match.
Clarke led the `Dogs with 10 kills (10-3-18, .389). Junior Kelly Mason (Temecula, Calif.) had 16 digs and senior Allanah Munson (Medford, Ore.) added 20 assists.
Fighting Spirit
Tonight's `Fighting Spirit' went to sophomore Kelli Parker (Lemoore, Calif.).
The `Dogs return home to host No. 3 Hawai'i on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Save Mart Center on ESPNU.
"We Are Your Team" - Fresno State is "packing the house" on October 29 when the Bulldog Volleyball team hosts nationally ranked Hawai'i. All Fresno State students living in the resident halls are encouraged to attend. The hall with the highest attendance will have the chance to win some great prizes!
