FRESNO, Calif - The Fresno State swimming and diving team competed against the three-time defending WAC Champion Nevada Wolf Pack Friday in Reno, Nev. The Dogs fought hard winning multiple events before falling to the Wolf Pack in dual meet competition 184.5 to 110.5.
The Bulldogs put up a valiant effort giving the defending champs a scare as they continue to improve in every event every week.
"We swam great today," said assistant coach Ryan Purdy. "It's always a challenge to come compete at a high altitude, but the team really stepped their game up today."
Sophomore Heidi Gjoen led the bulldogs into fierce competition finishing first in the 100 meter backstroke with a lightening fast time of 59.01, which is .01 of a second off of her all-time personal best. Gjoen also finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:09.09) and the 200 IM recording a time of 2:16.11 good enough for second place.

"Dani was amazing today," said Purdy. "It was her first victory in a dual meet in her college career and on top of that she got back in the pool after the 50 and tied for first in the 100 freestyle and was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team."
On the diving side Stacey Luke, Nikki Khols and Kendra Weeks finished second, third, and fourth, respectively in the 1-meter dive scoring a good sum of points for the `Dogs.
