Bulldogs Coast Past Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team opened exhibition play with a 57-30 win over cross-town foe Fresno Pacific on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center.
"I give a lot of credit to Fresno Pacific," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "It is always a great opportunity to play them in this great inner city game."
Jaleesa Ross led the Bulldogs in scoring with 11 points, 11 rebounds and five steals while Taja Edwards added nine points and six rebounds on her birthday.
The Bulldogs held the Sunbirds to 26 percent shooting from the field and forced 29 turnovers. Fresno State out rebounded Fresno Pacific 39-33.
"Our pressure was pretty good tonight," Edwards. "We had moments were we struggled but I thought we recovered pretty well."
Fresno State never trailed in the game as they jumped out to a 13-2 lead with 12:53 to play in the first half. The lead was extended to 22-6 five minutes later on a layup by Edwards and Fresno State led 31-13 at halftime.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 31 points at 46-15 seven minutes into the second half.
The exhibition affair was a time where the Bulldog coaching staff could play various players in preparation for the regular season. Wiggins and several of the players commented that they were pleased with how freshman Rosie Moult played in her first game.
Moult played 27 minutes, had seven points, one block and one steal.
Fresno State begins regular season play on Nov. 13 when they play at Big West champion UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs then play at USC on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m. The Dogs first home game is Nov. 22 against Saint Mary's at 2 p.m.
"It was an awesome environment tonight," Edwards said. "Tonight was good for us to get our kinks out. It gives us time to get ready for Santa Barbara."
