No. 15 Fresno State Triumphs Over No. 12 Vanderbilt

FRESNO, Calif. - The leadership of the No. 15 Fresno State women's tennis team proved too much for 12th-ranked Vanderbilt, as the Bulldogs cruised past the Commodores 4-0 in Nashville, Tenn. to qualify for the National Team Indoors Sweet 16.
The Bulldogs set the tone early on with by winning the doubles point. Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova, the second-ranked doubles team in the country, took care of business with a 8-2 victory over Vanderbilt's Catherine Newman and Courtney Ulery.
"We were really strong and played with a lot of energy in doubles and hit the ball well," Fresno State Simon Thibodeau said.
The Bulldogs kept the momentum rolling as they won the first four singles matches to bring home the victory. No. 17 Melanie Gloria, No. 29 Petukhova and freshman Laura Pola all recorded wins in singles action.
"We fought hard to beat a good Vanderbilt team, especially playing on their home court," Thibodeau said.
The win over Vanderbilt earned the Bulldogs an invitation to Madison, Wisc. for the National Indoors Sweet 16 on Feb. 13-16.
Before the National Indoors, Fresno State will host Rice on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.
