Bulldogs Earn Win Over Alumni

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team concluded alumni weekend with a 5-2 win over the alumni team. The annual golf tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The weather didn't bother Bulldog baseball fans as over 500 family and fans joined the celebration at the Double Play dinner where the 2008 team received their National Championship rings. The dinner was a chance to meet the 21 new faces that join the `Dogs in 2009.
A crowd of over 400 came out to watch the annual alumni game. The alumni team consisted of players like Kent Sakamoto, Brian Lapin, Nick Moresi, Justin Wilson, Justin Miller, Eddie Romero, and Dennis Springer.
Former Bulldog running back Clifton Smith made an appearance for the alumni as a pinch runner. Smith scored the first run for the alumni off a double from Lapin. Smith ended the game with five stolen bases and both runs for the alumni team.
Jake Floethe pitched five innings two strikeouts for the Bulldogs and Holden Sprague pitched the last four innings with three strikeouts.
Sophomores Jake Johnson and Jordan Ribera both hit doubles. Johnson's double drove in the first two runs for the Bulldogs. Newcomers Brennan Gowens and Dusty Robinson appeared in the outfield for the first time.
The Bulldogs open the 2009 season in front of a sold out crowd against Washington on Feb. 20 at 6:05.
